1. Choose the desktop DMG

Find the macOS Universal DMG in the official release Assets. Universal packages include Apple silicon and Intel support. Check the release notes for the minimum macOS version rather than relying on the requirements of an older release.

The separate photocraft-cli ZIP is intended for command-line automation. Choose the DMG when you want the graphical editor.

2. Compare the checksum

Download SHA256SUMS.txt from the same release when provided. In Terminal, replace the example filename:

shasum -a 256 ~/Downloads/photocraft-file.dmg

Match the output to the entry for that exact DMG. A matching checksum checks integrity, while signing and notarization are separate checks.

3. Move the app into Applications

  1. Open the downloaded DMG.
  2. Drag PhotoCraft into Applications.
  3. Launch the copy in Applications, rather than continuing to run from the disk image.
  4. Once installation is complete, eject the mounted disk image.

If macOS reports a problem, note the exact message and confirm that the download came from the official release. Check the release’s signing notes. This guide does not require removing quarantine attributes or disabling Gatekeeper.

4. Try a small file before a large PSD

Open a small image with File → Open. Add a simple edit, save a copy into a writable folder and reopen it. Use ⌘ in place of Ctrl for the common shortcuts shown in our reference.

For an existing design, check that its fonts are installed, then compare the rendering against an export from the original editor. Keep the original project untouched until the round trip has been checked.
